Say your child or you have cancer and it will cost thousands for treatment, and you ask for donations, put out donation cans and have fundraisers… You raise like $20,000. Is that money taxable if it goes straight to the treatment of your condition?

No.

You are never required to pay tax on gifts that you receive from persons for whom you did not do anything. However, you must pay tax on "gifts" that are really tips from your customers or bonuses from your employer.

If the person gives the money to you as a gift that you may use for any purpose and you use it for a medical expense, then you can deduct the medical expense.

If the person pays for the medical expense directly, then you cannot deduct the medical expense. The donor also cannot deduct the medical expense, unless the patient was a dependent of the donor.

The donor cannot deduct the donation as a contribution to charity. Only donations to charitiable organizations may be deducted, not donations to individuals.

Symptoms of Breast Cancer

Here is some valuable information on Breast Cancer

A change in the shape or size of a breast
A lump or thickening in the breast
Dimpling in the skin
A change in the shape of the nipples, particularly when it turns in.
A discharge of blood from the nipples
A rash round the nipple
A swelling or lump in the arm pit

Like a breast lump, blood discharge and rash on the nipples, swelling or lump in the arm pit may not necessarily be cancer but if this is new to you you need to visit a doctor as soon as possible. It might be nothing at all or the worst case scenario it is cancer but remember your giving the doctor a fair chance of treating you.

There is a inflammatory breast cancer which can have some different symptoms. The whole breast can look red and inflamed and can be very sore, The skin sometimes looks like a orange peel.

Another rare type of cancer is when a rash shows up around the nipple it is called Paget’s disease. Its a red scaly rash and can be itchy, it is sometimes mistaken for eczema.

If you see any spots a lump See your doctor straight away. If you notice anything unusual about your breast have it examined. Even though most breast lumps are beginning, they need to be checked to rule out cancer.

Your doctor will examine you and if necessary, send you to a specialist breast clinic for further checks. At the clinic, they will be able to see on your mammogram or ultrasound if the lump is a fluid-filled cyst or a solid lump.

If it is a cyst, they may get rid of it by draining it through a fine needle. If it is a solid lump, they will stick a very fine needle into it and take a tissue sample to test for cancer cells.

Some women prefer to have benign lumps removed to relieve their worry. They may be concerned that they will confuse them with any other lumps they may develop in the future. But if you and your doctor are confident that the lump is benign, you do not even have to have it removed if you do not want to. Benign lumps don’t turn into cancer.

If your lump is a cancer, the earlier the treatment for breast cancer, the better your chance of cure.

Cancer Victims May Turn To Spa Treatments

Firstly, let me point out that the results that were released by the Health Spa Commission in the UK do not claim that spa treatments should in any way replace traditional cancer treatments. Having said that, the results are very interesting and reveal just how important it is to investigate as many forms of cancer treatment as possible.

Over 2500 participants were studied over a 4 year period, with varying types and severities of cancer. The results showed that those who partook in specialized spa days treatments over the course of 6 months were more likely to see an improvement in their condition than those who did not. In fact over 65% of those who had the treatments showed signs of improvement over the six months, compared to only 55% of who did not have treatments.

We had to be very careful about the types of treatments we prescribed stats Tony Lancer, Director of Studies. He pointed out that often cancer can be spread through the lymphatic system and so manipulation of areas around lymph glands can be dangerous to cancer sufferers. Additionally, some products used in traditional massage and skin care treatments can react badly with those used in chemotherapy. For these reasons massage was limited to localized areas and doctors were consulted on the ingredients in all skin care and beauty products used.

It is thought that the positive results for the patients were an effect of the relaxation that resulted from having the treatments such as a facial or pedicure etc. As the human body does not function well under prolonged periods of stress, Lancer suggests cancer recover is highly restricted when it is in a state of anxiety. The treatments that the patients had helped reduce levels of stress dramatically, and this has the knock on effect of enabling the body to respond more actively to the cancer medicines.
