Be Aware of the Symptoms of Breast Cancer
In today’s world, is it that occurrences of breast cancer are growing much more than it was years ago, or it is just that breast cancer is getting more visibility in the press and medical journals? It appears that the answer is a little bit of both. The population is increasing and therefore the actual number of cases is more, although the actual percentage of people diagnosed with breast cancer is not significantly different (although it is higher) than in years past.
One of the things that many people fail to understand is that anyone can get breast cancer. Although it is thought to be tied somewhat to being hereditary, that does not mean that you will not get breast cancer if there is no occurrence of it in your family history.
Another thing that is equally puzzling is why more people, particularly women where breast cancer is most likely to happen, do not get regular checkups from their doctor to check for it. I know of multiple people who were diagnosed with breast cancer, and when asked when the last time they had a mammogram done to check for the presence of breast cancer, they indicated it had been a number of years. This is truly unfortunate because like most things, if breast cancer is caught as early as possible, the chances of beating it become incredibly greater.
You should be aware of the symptoms of breast cancer, sometimes also known as inflammatory breast caner so that you can see your doctor as soon as possible if these symptoms exist. These symptoms include:
* A breast that appears bruised, or is pink or purple.
* If your breast is feeling tender or firm and enlarged.
* A consistent warm feeling in the breast.
* Pain or itching in the breast that is constant.
* A ridged or dimpled skin texture, kind of like an orange peel.
* Flattened, retracted, swollen or crusted skin around the nipple.
* Lumps or enlarged lymph nodes under the arm or around the collarbone.
This is not an exhaustive list of symptoms but if you are experiencing any of these symptoms or signs, you should see your doctor as soon as possible to get checked out. Most health insurance companies will pay for this examination, because they realize that it is going to cost them much more if the cancer is allowed to grow instead of being diagnosed, caught, and remedied early on in its development stages.
Many of these same symptoms can also indicate the presence of a breast infection called mastitis. This type of infection most frequently (although not exclusively) occurs in younger women, usually under age 35, who are breast feeding young children. This is not breast cancer but is a simple infection that is most easily treated with prescription antibiotics. It is frequently accompanied by fever. The difference here is that breast cancer does not cause a fever, nor does it respond to antibiotics.
The bottom line is that you need to be aware of the classic symptoms of breast cancer, since the earlier it is diagnosed and treated, especially with the advances in today’s medicines, the better your chances of beating it.

i have read about this cancer. this is a scary thing. if you have no signs, then what can we look for. i think we should always listen to our bodies because we all have that little voice in the back of our minds telling us to go have this checked out but sometimes if we dont do anything about it then we think it will just go away.

It certainly isn’t a new cancer.
Only 1-2% of all breast cancers are inflammatory breast cancer, which is so called because the overlying skin of the breast has a reddened appearance, which is caused by breast cancer cells blocking tiny channels in the breast tissue called lymph channels.
The most common symptoms are a warmth, redness or swelling of the breast that may feel sore. Ridges may appear on the skin, or the breast may appear pitted like the skin of an orange.
As with other forms of breast cancer, some women may find a lump, while others experience pain in the breast or nipple. Some may have a nipple discharge or inverted nipple.
It can be difficult to diagnose because symptoms can be similar to non-cancerous conditions such as mastitis.
It can grow more quickly than other types of breast cancer so there is a stronger possibility that cancer cells may spread to other parts of the body.

Hahaha, new? I am completely sorry, but diseases such as cancer just don’t appear out of the blue. This particular type of cancer was first found in 1913, when one of the state senator’s wives had died from it. We actually just completed all of this in health class.

It’s not new. It’s just rare for anyone to get it. There are over 200 different types of cancer and just as many subtypes. This is just one subtype of breast cancer . . if you are concerned about it than you should also check out all the other rare cancers . . there are alot and just as deadly and just as likely for anyone to get as the one you mention.

1] this is not a newcancer, it is just rare [ less than 1 - 3% of diagnosed cases ].
2] it does have symptoms:
pink, redness, or bruising of breast
nipple changes
skin changes { peau d’orange – orange [ peel ] skin }
itching
heaviness
pain
warmth
swollen lymph nodes
3] frequently misdiagnosed as an infection and mis treated with antibiotic – but doesn’t improve
- diagnosed by exam, mammogram, MRI, U/S
4] very lethal – frequently diagnosed in stage 3 or 4
treated by surgery
chemo
radiation
hormone therapy

it isn’t new it is rare… it has a very low survival rate and is usually a late stage cancer… if there is a rash or bruise on the breast or the breast is enlarged or dimpled… go see you doctor now! breast cancer is not just lumps!! if your doctor says it’s just an infection, insist on at least a skin scrape to see if it is just an infection… if not insist on a biopsy!

LADIES – were you aware of this new breast cancer?
And if so, do you have any other additional information that would be helpful. It’s called Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Everything you were taught about the symptoms of breast cancer does not apply to this type. And it is extremely lethal. No lumps and it doesn’t show up on a mammogram. A 16 year old girl even died from it, just because she was too embarrassed to tell her mom that her breast looked funny. And most doctors mistake it for a simple infection upon initial examination. yes, I know it’s not new! it was late and i was trying to leave. it’s only new in that i’ve never heard of it before. cancer itself has been around for thousands and thousands of years, it just has a name now. i am concerned that people are concentrating more on my wording than the content….
