Q&A: What stage of brain cancer would my grandma be in?
Question by Funny…: What stage of brain cancer would my grandma be in?
She was diagnosed with lung cancer last winter/early spring and had surgery to remove it this mid-summer. It was assumed that the cancer was fully eliminated, but now she’s having troubles again that point to the cancer spreading to her brain. She’s had headaches for a couple weeks now and overall has been pretty sick (bad cough and bad headaches).
She’s acquiring a call from the physician sometime this week, but if you had to take a guess at which stage she’s at now, what would you say?

There isn’t a “stage” for this. Metastasis from the original internet site of the cancer is never ever very good and when it spreads, it normally indicates the person’s lifespan is going to be shortened. How much time she has will depend on regardless of whether any remedy begins or if she chooses not to have treatment which will hasten her death.

IF she had been seen by the dr and IF tests had been run and IF her cancer was shown to have returned, it would be stage 4 lung cancer.
This is a dangerous question to be asking on the Internet. Only because the answers will vary and might not be even close to right (mine included). This in turn can lead you to either think everything is okay or get you paranoid over nothing. Before I answer I will tell you the best source of information for you is going to be her doctor. He knows what is going on and can give you the best information.
Now, having said that, my Mother In Law was diagnosed with lung cancer about 7 months ago. Unfortunately she isn’t doing well and is in her last few days now. Her cancer spread from her lungs to ribs, brain and other areas. When that happened they told her she was in Stage 4.
Anyways, do yourself a big favor and ask her doctor for the information so you know that what you are hearing is the truth. Keep strong during this trying time and be there for your Grandmother. I am sure that at this point in her life she just wants the comfort of having her family around her.
It can depend on a lot of things. I would wait for her doctor to call because none of us can know for sure.
Brain cancer is not staged and there is no reason to believe she has brain cancer.
If you are thinking she has brain mets, which she has not been diagnosed with anything yet, but if she did it would still be lung cancer and it would be stage 4.
There is no guessing about it.
It does not depend on a lot of things and clearly there is a stage for this.
It is what I do for a living.
Cancer is named for the organ it starts in, not the organ it spreads to. So if the doctor diagnoses her to have metastases in her brain, it’s still lung cancer. It’s not impossible that she a separate cancer in her brain (not from the lung), although it’s more likely from the lung. The doctors can tell one from the other. And yes, if she has brain mets it’s stage IV lung cancer. Primary (not metastatic) brain tumors have different classification systems.
